ANCIENT EGYPTIAN LIVES, CLASS 2
Abu (Elephantine) was the capital city of the First Upper Egyptian nome, “Land of the Bow,” one of the ancient names for Nubia. Tombs of high-ranking officials at Qubbet el-Hawa have richly detailed autobiographical inscriptions. Lives covered in Class 2 will include the intrepid explorer Harkhuf, who used desert roads to travel deep into Nubia and meet the ruler of Yam, and an administrator named Sabni who was accused of a crime (not specified in the papyrus—but possible to reconstruct).
