ANCIENT EGYPTIAN LIVES, CLASS 1

This first class will focus on how we reconstruct ancient Egyptian lives, with an introduction to chronology, hieroglyphic and hieratic texts, and the principles of ancient Egyptian art. Niankhkhnum and Khnumhotep, identical twins who have been interpreted as a same-sex couple, provides an excellent case study for the need to study ancient Egyptian lives using primary sources rather than from the perspective of the modern world.
